Who? The developers of NextChapter are BCM Directors from across the state of Oklahoma. These Directors (listed at the bottom of this page) have been chosen because of the work they are already doing in transitioning high school seniors into college. We have also consulted with other believers who gave us insight in helping those who aren’t headed to college. There is something in NextChapter specifically for students whether headed to college, military, or the workforce.
What? We chose to do a church based Bible study because we believe the church is and should be the primary place of spiritual development. The emphasis on videos and discussion is in response to meeting this generation where they are.
Why? NextChapter was developed by Oklahoma Baptist Collegiate Ministries as a response to seeing numerous students who were solid Christians in high school fail both morally and spiritually in the next chapter of their life. As college ministers, we spend a lot of effort bringing in students to our ministry who should already be here. This is time and effort that should be spent mobilizing students and reaching the lost. We believe if we could aid churches in the transition out of high school, then we could spend more time impacting lostness on our campuses because your students will come to campus on mission. We don’t have all the answers, but we couldn’t just sit by and watch students leave the church. This is our attempt to help church homes make the most of the investments they have poured into students.
Where? This study is designed for Oklahoma churches. It can be facilitated in your churches regular small group teaching time or in a community group setting outside of church. It is our hope that churches across the state will make use of this study both in and outside of their church walls.
When? This study is designed to start approximately fourteen weeks before high school graduation. The time frame may be adjusted as some churches will do different Sunday events during the spring. The goal is that the last session is actually a commissioning service to send the students into their next chapter. This will hopefully take place on a Sunday around graduation like the senior recognition service many churches do.
How? We are able to provide this study to Oklahoma churches free of charge because of the Cooperative Program. BCM exists because of the faithful givers in Oklahoma and this is one of the many ways we want to give back.
